Foreward by W.D.C. Reed. President Commercial Cotton Growers’ Association – Since the last complete revision, the Cotton Research Institute and extension personnel have been hard at work trying to increase seed cotton yield and develop desirable fibre quality and to devise ways and means of increasing output per unit cost. The partial revision will bring individual growers up to date with this agrotechnological progress.

Research in the fields of breeding, pest and disease control, weed control and agronomy and physiology has made considerable strides forward in recent years and the recommendations contained in this Handbook are based on the conclusions drawn from research.

It is my pleasure, on behalf of all cotton growers, to acknowledge sincerely the stalwart effort made by the cotton research team in their endeavours and by the extension personnel who help put research into practice.
