Moyana was a Zimbabwean poet and educationist whose doctoral research, Michigan State, 1978, examined colonial education under Rhodesia and Nyasaland. This book is the published, developed version of that critique, extended into the post-independence period.

Published posthumously by ZPH, the dedication thanks his wife and children for enduring “the absence of a husband and father to allow this work to be completed,” indicating Moyana did not live to see its release.
