The first section of this book is written by I.R. Mahamba. It explores the love expectations of a young woman during the war of liberation. This love affair survived the war and we are then taken through the trials and tribulations that it goes through soon after independence.
The story of Ndangariro is not a true story about any particular individual but it draws from the experiences of many young women during the struggle and its aftermath where different parents had different expectations for their returning “girls”.
The second section of the book is written by Freedom Nyamubaya. It is made up of poems which are an expression of reality that women can express themselves in many ways – prose or poetically.
