The First Men 400,000BC Early Stone Age Period

Extensive studies place the Early Stone Age period to cover some 400,000 years which is four times as long as the rest of our current human history. Within this time the idea of stone tool-making spread throughout the continent as men firmly became established as tool-makers and hunter-gatherers of no small skill. The hunter-gatherers were entirely dependent on the natural resources of their environment, primarily shelter, vegetation, water and meat being in adequate supply. They could not, therefore, establish any permanent homes but would have been continuously on the move.

During the rainy season, they’d spread out to pick and gather wild fruit and tubers and during the dry season, they’d concentrate more on permanent water sources and a meat diet. As a result, bands would circle a designated hunting preserve.
